Solvero Pinot Noir

“Solvero Pinot Noir (2020) is a very elegant PN from the Garnet Valley, Summerland B.C. produced from clones 115, 867, 777, 828, 943, Swan and Pommard. The wine was aged 12 months in French oak barrels (33% new).

A brilliant deep ruby in the glass and lovely on the nose with intense aromas of liquid dark cherry, vanilla, underbrush, fine herbs, pepper spice, meaty and mineral notes, it is a dry, medium-bodied, fuller, rounder Pinot Noir, rich and velvety with dark cherry, plum, subtle fine herb, dark and pepper spicy flavours, long and caressing on the palate with mouth-watering acidity. Framed with fine-grained tannins, it would be delish with rack of lamb, or as the winery suggests, “with a duck confit.” Tasted August 2024.” 91/100

Solvero Rosé

“Wow! This is a beautifully crafted and balanced 100% Pinot Noir rosé from Solvero Winery in Summerland, British Columbia. A fairly new winery, it has recently also added and opened a skookum tasting room with amazing views of the Garnet Valley.

I first tasted their wines about a year ago and have since had the opportunity to taste their Pinot Gris 2023, Pinot Noir 2020 and rosé 2023. The rosé says summer all over it and is a bright medium pink in the glass with a tinge of coral at its core. Fragrant, in fact, perfumed with strawberry cotton candy, pink grapefruit, watermelon, pink florals, red berry, tangerine, watermelon, mineral notes from beginning to end with subtle dried wild herbs fresh on the nose.

Dry, medium-bodied and balanced with medium-plus acidity, it is silky with ripe strawberry and crack black pepper, pink roses, dried herbs finishing spicy and long with a pleasant pithy grapefruit zest bite tangy on the palate. Complex but easy to enjoy, it would be a perfect pairing to veal chops from the grill.” 92/100

Solvero Pinot Gris

“At first, I didn’t think much of this Pinot Gris… until it started to open up and then it really grew on me. The other note on this wine is that it kept its nose and flavours well after two days of being refrigerated and, in fact, exhibited more minerality. It is a rare thing that a bottle of wine this good stays that long in my fridge 😉 but I wanted to see what would happen to it over time.

Even elegant in the glass with a brilliant medium-pinkish gold hue, this PG is intense with aromas of fresh ripe pear, persimmon, ripe apricot, peach, lemon pudding with clean mineral notes throughout.

Dry, fruity fresh, medium-bodied, it surrounds the palate with medium-plus, fairly eye-winking acidity, silky, ripe pear, apple, white pepper and Meyer lemon zesty freshness that just keeps on giving and going. Chill and enjoy with a Cobb salad or lemon sole en papillote. Overall, an excellent quality, fresh-for-summer PG. Tasted August 2024.

Grapes for this B.C. Pinot Gris were sourced from the Kozuki Family and Happy Valley Vineyards in Summerland and the wine was aged half in neutral French oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks.” 92/100
