Harvest 2024 + Wine Club News
Harvest 2024 has now come and gone. All of our wines are fermenting away in tank or barrel. This harvest wasn’t a typical Okanagan one, but instead a travelling one, with new opportunities and creative thinking thrown in.
Our Winemaker, Alison, spent much of September in Oregon. Back in July, Alison hand-selected two vineyard sites – five specific blocks of grapes that were farmed specifically for Solvero.
Pinot Noir was selected for our sparkling wine base, we are very excited to introduce a Blanc de Noir to our portfolio! Stay tuned for more info to come on that.
Those grapes came from the Hyland Vineyard in the McMinnville AVA. Pinot Noir was also chosen for Rose. We found ideal Chardonnay grapes from the Aebischer vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains AVA.
Alison, pictured with the bin of grapes, was on site at the vineyards in Oregon to decide on the timing of the hand-harvest. She even managed the whole cluster pressing of the grapes in Oregon on the same day. The juice was then chilled and shipped in a refrigerated truck to Solvero. It is now finishing fermentation here at the winery in Garnet Valley. Even though these grapes come from Oregon, we oversaw the entire process just like we would at home.
Like most wineries bringing fruit in from the US, these wines from Oregon won’t be available for awhile as we continue to sell our current releases.
When we do release them, they will be clearly labelled so you know where they’ve come from and how they’re made.
They are being brought to the bottle with the same care and attention as if the grapes were grown in our own vineyards.
It may be an unusual harvest, but we are grateful for new opportunities and for our friends and colleagues in Oregon. As you can tell from the photos, it’s just as stunning there as it is here.
